    Beaches

What is your favorite beach to visit? Mine is Wrightsville beach in NC. I always have a fantastic time there...

    Re: Beaches

Vancouver has amazing beaches. I haven't been to all that many beaches in my life, so I don't have much of a basis for comparison, but I wanted to go swimming at those beaches (they have four, I think) so badly.

One of the best beaches anywhere is Mavillette Beach in Nova Scotia. It's between Yarmouth and Digby on Fundy Bay, and when the tide is out, you can walk for about a mile to get to the water. Tidal pools often have interesting fish caught in them, and the beach above the high tide mark is perfect for playing or sunbathing on.

    Re: Beaches

Vancouver does have some nice beaches; Toronto has basically a foot of sand that they call a beach here and there...

    :P

    Re: Beaches

I love New England beaches - summer or winter. My favorite always will be Brant Rock in Marshfield, MA with its rocky beach and natural breakwater. I've stood there and watched thunderstorms and blizzards (including the blizzard of 78 - did I just age myself or what?), made out on the rocks, swum there in every season (dead of winter included!) ... it's small, it's quiet and few people bother with it, even townies... which makes it all the more special to me.

    Re: Beaches

I've had a fabulous time at some of the beaches in France... as well as Myrtle Beach in SC. You really go to Myrtle for the touristy things rather than the beach itself.

    Re: Beaches

Well, I have two. One of which I can't visit until I hit the lottery ;). I love going to Topsail Beach here in NC and Kaneohe MCAS, Waikiki, and the beaches in Waianae, HI. They are all beautiful and I have good memories from them.

    Re: Beaches

I don't know if I'm going to be much help here as I live on the East Coast and rarely go to beaches out of the area, but so far the best I've found is Oak Island (North Carolina). It's in the southern most county in NC, has a nice Aquarium nearby, Bald Head Island is just a ferry ride away and it's breathtaking, and is five minutes from Historic Southport if you are in to that stuff. (That's actually where Dawsons Creek was filmed.) It's nice and quiet, just water and houses. To me that's heaven. :)

    Re: Beaches

I have been to some beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. I loved Myrtle Beach SC but my favourite has to be the beach in palma de majorca in Spain. It's a beautiful lively beach with miles and miles to walk. It's really something to see if are visiting overseas.

    Re: Beaches

Southern California beaches can be terrific.  I would love to go back to any beach in Hawaii.  Actually, I have never met a beach that I didn't like...

    Re: Beaches

Panama City has the nicest sand, and lots of it. The water is a nice color as well. The only down side is that the waves never get too large, except for when there is a hurricane near by.

    Re: Beaches

Speaking of sand, Prince Edward Island has a charming beach at Basin Head, sometimes called the Singing Sands Beach.  It makes an odd little noise when you walk on it, apparently because of some quartz crystals. There are only a few beaches in the world with "singing sands".  This place also has a quaint fisheries museum illustrating a day in the life of a fisherman through artefacts, pictures, etc.

    Re: Beaches

I love this little rocky beach in Orunguit, Maine right outside a fantastic art museum.  But I'd have to say, for lying around on the beach, I'd go right back to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

    Re: Beaches

I think the best beaches anywhere are warm, sandy and not too crowded, wherever you can find them... Vancouver, Vancouver Island and along the Pacific coast in general...

I also experienced an almost isolated sandy beach in Ecuador, as a child with my family for a week, which was amazing... There was a local village nearby...

Some wonderful beaches in the Carribbean...

I dream of visiting Hawaii, or Spain, or UK (they must have some great beaches!), or pretty much anywhere in the Mediteranean...

I'd choose Hawaiian beaches, space coast Florida, and St. Simons Island, Georgia.

But many beaches are fabulous because I enjoy the ocean so much.  Paradise
