I received an interesting email about cell phones the other day.

One of the facts stated was that you can avoid charges for directory assistance by punching in 800-free-411 or 800-373-3411.

Has anyone here heard of this or tried it?

Pretty sure this number works , but you can only use it once per phone line for a set amount of time.   A friend of mine told me about it so I tried it but it gave me the number of a place other than what I requested.  When I called back to try again, it said I had used my one free call and needed to wait till the given date that it rambled off. 

That's interesting. In my case, if it allowed me one free number looked up every month or so, it would still probably be worth my while to save the number in my cell.

That's not encouraging that you received the wrong number, though.
