I am curious then-how do you get around the rule that there are no electronic items allowed on board? A laptop is clearly electronic and would be a perfect way of hiding both detinator and plastic explosive.

I always take my laptop with me places but I am still not too far from home.  I think you do need to be careful with laptops for security reasons.  I have heard of many stolen computers lately.

Travelocity, when I booked with them just a couple of weeks ago.

    Ok having re-read I see that is just for UK travel, you have my apologies. The full travel alert as it stands right now;

    Travel Alert!

Air travel alerts issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Transport Canada have changed screening procedures at airports in North America and the United Kingdom. If you are traveling in these regions, the changes listed below will affect you.

We always recommend checking the TSA Web site (www.tsa.gov) or Transport Canada Web site (www.tc.gc.ca) for the most up-to-date information about changing security procedures and prohibited items.

    Travel in North America:

    • The TSA has adjusted its ban on liquids, aerosols, and gels, so you can now carry the following items on board your flight:

      - Travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in one quart-size, clear plastic zip-top bag.

      - Beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area.

At the security checkpoint you will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt, making it easier for TSA security officers to examine these items.

Passengers carrying on larger amounts of prescription liquid medications, baby formula, and diabetic glucose treatments will also be required to declare these at the security checkpoint for additional screening.

This new security policy applies to all domestic and international flights departing from U.S. airports. If your plans include travel originating at a non-U.S. ai rport, be sure to check that airport's security policies and pack accordingly.

    • Schedule changes may occur. Travelers should check online or call the airlines before heading to the airport.
    • Travelers are advised to travel light.
    • Travelers are advised to arrive at the airport 3 hours ahead of their departure time due to significant delays caused by new security procedures.

Travel within and from the United Kingdom:

    • If you are traveling within the UK, or if you are departing the UK for another international destination, you must check ALL of your belongings. Wallets, IDs, and necessary medications are exceptions; these essential items must be carried in a plastic bag (clear bags are recommended).
    • Electronic items are not permitted on board any aircraft. Electronic items include laptops, mobile phones, and iPods.

would you bring your computer with you on a trip?
overseas or in another country?..do you feel safe or would you leave it at home.

i really want to bring my laptop with me on my next trip..but scared to lose it.

    anyone ever had any problems?

I always bring my own laptop wherever I go especially if I travel for business purposes. I only leave my laptop if I join camping or mountain climbing with friends.

    Re: computer on a trip?

No. I don't have a laptop. Probably the biggest reason why I don't have one, is because I have no desire to take my computer outside my house.

Besides offering bad prices it appears that Travelocity is feeding incorrect information as well.  Laptops are allowed within UK and on all flights from UK.  In fact BAA has the same rules regarding electronics and liquids as Department of Homeland Security.  You can read current BAA rules here and here you can get a detailed list of what's allowed and what's not.  The only restriction is when you go through security you have to take your laptop out of the bag and place it in a separate tray which is the same policy here in US.

    Re: computer on a trip?

It depends upon where I am going. If there is alot of things to see all the time then I dont take computer with me. If there is few things to do, like I dont have to go club in night , I take computer with me.

    Re: computer on a trip?

I've traveled with my laptop many times and Have never had a proble,  I need mine for when I travel to work so it is a necessity.  There are some times, some trips where I do worry about it but it ends up ok in the end.  I do back up everything before I leave with it though, just in case I run into trouble or it gets stolen.

    Re: computer on a trip?

It's not that I'm scared of losing it, but just that I do a lot of things on my laptop. I'd want to check my email for instance. But I'm against becoming too dependent on technology, so I force myself not to bring it, and it's pretty rewarding. Of course, dropping by an Internet Cafe can solve my e-mail problem as well.
