    New Zealand Creepy Crawlies?

I've heard time and time again that New Zealand is absolutely breathtaking and not to be missed.  But I've also heard that many of it is left as nature intended and many hotels/resorts have open floorplans, letting nature in as much as possible.  While this might be amazing when watching the sunset, I'm a bit wary of finding something slithering under my bed.  Anyone been there that can ease my fears?

Our country is also set up like that.  We usually leave our doors open for nature.  In New Zealand, I think they have protection against these creepy crawlies.  Their doors are not as open as we think they are.  Besides, they are into cleanliness and maintainance, especially the hotels.  I guess, there is no need to worry going there for a trip.

I am quite petrified of all things that crawl, slither, and scuttle. I think because the hotels cater to visitors, especially tourists (westerners like us tend to  be less in touch with nature anyway, sadly) that they would have some sort of protection against it. Maybe netting or some kind of sliding doors? I think they would anticipate the fear of those kinds of things and make sure everyone will be comfortable with their floor plan.

You are going to be fine, no creepy crawlies in your hotel. They normally don't have an open door policy in hotels and resturants etc, yes it can be hot and sticky with the doors and windows closed, but they have discovered air conditioning to make you comfortable.

I can't promise you won't see some if you go out sight seeing in the countryside, but most creepy crawleys are scared of you and they will run away and hide.

For what it's worth - I heard that New Zealand is not as bad as Australia for creepy crawlies...

I'd think that creepies under the bed (or IN it?? ICK!)  would be more of an issue with how clean any given hotel is no matter where it's found.  A bad hotel in any major world city might have crawlies under the bed.

Unless you are out in the bush it's just the usual insects and unlike in Aus none are poisonous.  If you are near the bush the chance to see weta, saucer sized kauri snail and weta is IMHO a big plus.  The are fascinating to see, slow moving and don't bite.
