    Migrating to New Zealand

Hi!  Just wanna share what I have learned about migrating to NZ.  I got these ideas from friends who have lived now in NZ.

The NZ government really takes care of their residents.  Once you are in NZ, you are supported by the government.  They  help you find jobs and places where you can settle.  Of course, it is much better if you go there with friends and relatives who can help you make adjusting a little bit easier.  A friend of mine didn't have a job, just stayed home with the kids and they get benefits with regards to a discount in rent and others.  Also, she studied Nursing and was able to get a student loan for that.

I don't know if other countries also have these kinds of benefits to their migrants but definitely, in the country where I live, we don't have these so I really admire the NZ government for this.

As a New Zealander it is really nice to here you say that! I hope you have been as accepted by the community as you have by the government. Some of us can have problems with accepting people from other cultures unfortunately!

    Re: Migrating to New Zealand

I've heard about how New Zealand welcomes people with open arms. It's been on my list of places to visit, and was a job location consideration for me when I was looking fresh out of college! I hear good things about New Zealand.

I'm curious what kind of life a writer or artist could lead in New Zealand. I was watching 5 Takes on the Discovery Channel and it seems like a place very open and accepting of writers and artists. If I ever take the plunge, maybe I'll make the move to New Zealand!

Are you really willing to throw "everything" away just for a "safe life"? Your friends, your family, just be proud of where you are today. I think thats a stupid reason to live there, especially if your young. If your an old fart, hehe, then go ahead..you guys have nothing better to do :P

    Re: Migrating to New Zealand

This sounds really interesting. New Zealand is an ideal location for me. Right now, I am anything but happy, as I am an educated man struggling to survive in the U.S. That is mostly because of the competition there is in this country right now. It's funny how you always hear people talk about how successful a person can become in this country. Like any other place, though, the nobility make up a small percentage of the population.   Anyway, I wonder how hard it would be to take my dogs (my only family) overseas like that.

On the contrary, it's very difficult to gain permanent residency in NZ

Okay, how so? We have one person who claims it is easy to gain residnecy while another person says it's not. Someone is not telling the truth.

    Re: Migrating to New Zealand

Speaking as a Kiwi I can confirm it is not particulalry easy to qualify to migrate to NZ.  Like most other countries there is a points based system.  So unless you are rich, young and in a high demanded profession, or marrying a Kiwi, don't expect to just walk in.
