    Which Islands?

I don't know very much about Caribbean travel.  Where are some good places to visit?  How do I go about setting up a Caribbean vacation?

    Re: Which Islands?

It depends on what you expect from a vacation.  If you want to party I'd recommend Hedonism resorts in Jamaica.  The best time to go is Spring Break.  You are guaranteed to have tons of fun 24 hours a day.  If you want complete relaxation on the beach and do nothing all day besides sleeping, eating and drinking then Dominical Republic is the place to go.  Cheap and good!!!  Just can't beat that.  If you are into scuba diving then Cayman Islands is the place to visit.  The sheer number and diversity of the dive sites is truly astonishing.  Generally all Caribbean destinations are more or less the same.  Just research before you go and you will not be disapointed with your first Caribbean vacation.

Agreed - though it kind of depends on your age. If you like a break with the kids, or your idea of a good time is playing croquet and drinking gin and tonic, you might find Hedonism just a little on the wild side. Down the coast from Hedonism Jamaica you'll find the Royal Decameron, which is a little more sedate but just as much fun in its own way - it's on Montego Bay, and they do great watersports.

Jamaica sounds really fun.. I would want to check that out at some point, but something more sedate also appeals to me personally.  I wonder about the smaller islands as well, if they are as suited for travel.

St. Lucia and St. Kitts are both fun, as is Grenada. All three have a good variety of beaches and facilities, but are a little more quiet and off the beaten track than Jamaica and Barbados, and well worth exploring if you want a slightly quieter vacation.

On a personal recommendation I'd have to suggest St. Lucia.  It was beautiful and not quite as touristed up as St. Thomas these days.  I'd also suggest a helicopter flight over St. John, it's absolutely breathtaking!
