I am coming up to another big US -- NZ flight.  I generally prefer Qantas, Air Indonesia is pretty good.  But I was wondering about Air Japan.

I am also dithering about whther a top over makes things better or just costs a lot of money and strings out the apalling experience of 25hours of flying in economy even more!  :(

Air Japan is a decent airline.  You will not be disappointed if you book it.  I would also suggest Air New Zealand and Air Tahiti Nui.  We are expected to receive a contract on discounted (consolidated fares) with Air Tahiti Nui in the next few weeks.  This would mean discounts of up to 50% off regular Published rates.

Do you have golf air there?

 If yes then go for that. I was once with golf air when returning from malaysia. That was the best service I get ever from the airlines.

I haven't tried golf air in Malaysia. I think Air Asia is best too in terms of their service to all passengers. In addition, the airfare is very affordable.
