    Undercover Wallets?

Do people still use undercover wallets/fanny packs? Are they useful at all? If you do use one or prefer a certain brand, could you post here? It would really help me out getting prepared for Peru.

I always use them when I am travelling. I am a very bad traveller, paranoid and always convinced that I am going to miss my train/flight and so on. I need that extra security, and also the ease of access for my passport and visa. I don't want those things where others can get them, but where I can.

I don't have a favourite brand and in fact hate mine because it is so scratchy. But that doesn't stop me using it.

I have a really, really old one, I don't think it's a brand name or anything, its one I was given when I made my first trip abroad.

I use it while I'm on the journey out (I tend to take lots of cash instead of travellers cheques) but once I get wherever I'm going I'm pretty bad about leaving a lot of cash in my hotel room.

Thankfully I've not had anything stolen yet, but I should probably keep my money on me at all times to be safe.

Hmm... so it's definitely worth getting one. It just doesn't make sense to me to keep everything in one place... since if the Money Belt gets stolen then you're definitely out of luck. I've heard some pretty paranoid stories about people showering with their passports and such... I hope that really isn't all that necessary.

I don't keep it all in one place. I have some in my luggage, some in my carry on, some in my wallet in my pocket, some in my hidden pouch, and some in a phone card holder that I wear around my neck. I am SERIOUSLY paranoid.

The money belts are very secure and you can feel them on you when you're wearing them - not in an uncomfortable way, but you know it's there. The only way someone could get it off you would be to actually mug you - it couldn't be pickpocketed or anything. I wouldn't go as far as to shower with my passport, but it does stay in my bag, which comes into the bathroom with me when I'm in the hotel bathing / showering - just in case :)
