    taronga zoo

It's one of the best places to visit in Sydney, for young and old. The diurnally reversed platypus habitat is amazing.

There are over 3000 endangered and rare critters here, including a substantial number of Australian ones. The critters are thoroughly well looked after too, and they have million-dollar views, making them some of the luckiest residents in Sydney.

A zoo fave of ours is the platypus habitat, in which day and night have been switched around so that the nocturnal platypuses are active during opening hours. There are also plenty of photo opporunities in the koala display and for those who love seeing performing seals, keep lunchtime free. Taronga Zoo has an important endangered species breeding program, including Sumatran tigers, red pandas, orang-utans and snow leopards. There's a wonderful sleep-over program called Roar & Snore, but this gets booked out quickly - still, it's worth trying to get a ticket.

I've been to different zoo in our place. I used to travel with sister. I used to play with monkeys. I made them happy by giving bananas.  Taronga Zoo sounds good. I hope I can visit that place.

    Re: taronga zoo

The Taronga nocturnal house truly is excellent.  Not only for the design but because it focusses on the native animals.  I particulalry loved the bilbies and can see why the Aussies replaced their Easter Bunny with one :)

I get so sick of zoos that are all the same not matter what country you are in.  Lions and tigers and bear, yawn.  But outside of that area it is a pretty standard zoo and some of the enclosures are very small and worn.  I always find zoos a bit depressing because of that.

I have been once in taronga zoo. That was about 10 years ago. I was only 6 years old at that time. I can remember those wonderfull monkeys. That was really a good zoo.

    Re: taronga zoo

I'm not bored of looking the same kinds of animals in the zoo. But I'm very much willing to see other kinds of animals too.  I think the Taronga Zoo is only one of the excellent zoo. There are still many awesome zoo worldwide.

I love going to zoos but have never been to Australia.  Their Taronga zoo sounds wonderful.   I wish I could go sometime.  Do they happend to have an online site where you can have a virtual visit?  I think some places do.

I don't have the specific site of Tarongga Zoo. But I think this related link gives a little idea about Tarongga Zoo. http://www.zoo.nsw.gov.au/

    Re: taronga zoo

I got to the zoo via the harbour cruise and I was sure that I wouldn't spend more than a few hours there. Turns out I was wrong, the zoo has to be the most amazing thing I've seen next to the Great Barrier Reef. The "Red Panda's" were definitely worth a look... I didn't even know they existed.

    Re: taronga zoo

I use to have a fettish for the zoo and always wanted  to go to that taronga zoo but it's so far. But I heard that it is very different from the regular zoos here in the Usa. They put more time and effort in creating a animalistic area for their visitors.

    Re: taronga zoo

I agree that is is too much to consider a trip for the purpose of seeing that zoo. But if you should happen to be travelling to Oz anyway, then I agree it would be a wonderful thing to schedule.

    Re: taronga zoo

Taronga Zoo is located on the shores of Sydney Harbour. Aside from the zoo, is there any other beautiful tourist spots nearby?
