Does your health plan cover travel insurance?

A few years ago I was pleasantly surprised to find that my health insurance from work covered most of the travel insurance package I bought for my vacations.

Just thought I'd mention it, in case anyone else could take advantage of that but hadn't thought about it.

Yes, no questions that all health insurance plans do cover medical expenses for all domestic travel but very few offer same protection when you travel abroad.  Also, travel insurance packages include many extras that are really worth having.  Example is lost baggage protection, trip cancellation/interruption and many more.

Re: Does your health plan cover travel insurance?

In my case, I bought the travel insurance package and was pleased to find that my group coverage accepted a claim for the cost of the insurance I bought.

I'll continue to buy travel insurance, and hopefully I'll continue to be reimbursed...

Oh I see what you mean.  Yes, this is definitely interesting.  Who is your provider (though work)?

Someone offered me to have a health insurance but I'm not too familiar about it. Do you think I need to know first everything before saying yes to the one who offered me?

Re: Does your health plan cover travel insurance?

My health insurance does offer some coverage outside of the country, but only in specific countries that they have agreements with. I normally purchase travel insurance just in case as a supplement, and because of the fact that my health insurance just refunds expenses you pay up front. Its a rare trip that I would be able to afford to do that, so I get the insurance so that only a small amount would be left for me to pay.

I newly have my travel insurance and it covers all medical expenses. I think it's a good advantage for me especially travelling in cold weather countries.

Most health Insurance that I know about only offer coverage in the international area, I have never ran across a health company that offers anything more. But If I do best be sure that I sign up with them.

I do not think my health insurance covers this.  But if I was away somewhere and became ill I could go to the ER if it was an emergency.

I would think so becaue coverage means that you are capable of going to any hospital especially if it was an emergency. Coverage is coverage.

Re: Does your health plan cover travel insurance?

Thank you for the heads up!  I wouldn't have actually thought of checking into my health insurance for travel insruance.  Do they offer similar coverage?  Is it comparable?  I figure if you are already paying for health insurance, it is best to just go with that rather than paying out a lot more money to get seperate travel insurance!
