Travel For Business / Pleasure, or Both?

A professional society I'm a member of has it's AGM coming up in a few months. They have negotiated discounted flights and accomodation for members attending, and have managed to get the offer to run a week before, and a week after, the meeting so that people can get a cheap holiday out of it at the same time. Is this a common thing? It's the first time I've ever seen it (I've noticed most employers seem quite hostile towards people taking on a few extra days at the end of a business trip). Either way I think it's a neat idea. Just a shame the destination is very touristy, I hate those kinds of places or I'd take advantage of it :)

I know that the organisation that I normally end up at conventions for will always organise cut price rates for the attendees, but it only extends for one night before and one night after the event. Those nights are just to make sure that people don't have to drive for four or five hours immediately preceding the event, nothing to do with pleasure.

So I would enjoy it and take full advantage. It might not happen again.

I used to have a business trip because it's part of my job. Last month I was in Singapore to attend a conference. I was the representative of my company. It was only a 2 days meeting but I stayed in Singapore for a week. It was not in the plan. I was just tempted to roam around and see the beauty of Singapore.

I travel for both, make my work trips into pleasure trips or the other way around.  Either way when I travel it is because it is somewhere I want to go, but I am also working while I do it- even though it is easy work.  Works out well in the end.

I used to travel for work, mostly by car.

There are some conventions that I could attend hosted by one of the unions I belong to, but I haven't taken advantage of that yet.

Do any of you take advantage of things when you are traveling for business.?  Like use the bar or room service because your company is picking up the tab, when you otherwise wouldnt do those things while traveling because of the cost.
