    Greyhound

Is Greyhound the only major provider of bus travel?

    Re: Greyhound

I'm sure there might be some smaller lines and I know I've seen specialty charter type buses, but Greyhound is by far the most popular and widely-ranged provider that I know of.

    Re: Greyhound

you might find some smaller lines, but at times they're owned in the back by Greyhound - they took over a few lines in Northern Ontario but kept eveyrthing the same, just slapped a new patch on the driver's uniform so that you couldn't tell the difference.

    Re: Greyhound

I was just wondering.  Looks like Greyhound is fulfilling the market need pretty well.

    Re: Greyhound

I'm surprised Greyhound is even still in business. Their prices are hardly what I'd call competitive.

    Re: Greyhound

well, theyr'e not bad - depending on where you want to go and if you don't mind taking the time. Their passes are good and senior rates are excellent, imo.

    Re: Greyhound

I was thinking the same.  Sometimes, the rates reach the rates of air travel.

    Re: Greyhound

it all depnds on where you going - my mother can go from Erie to Toronto for just under $75 US and we drive to pick her up there - for her to fly to Pittsburgh from Toronto is no less than $300!

    Re: Greyhound

I'm really not a big fan of Greyhound, my experiences for the most part with them have been negative. The trip took forever. My trip took about 6 hours longer than it should have due to miscalculations on their part. They over booked my bus and the driver nearly got us lost. I think I'll shell out the extra cash to fly from now on.

It seems like they pretty much charge what they want because nobody knows of any other bus services.

    Re: Greyhound

I've heard that Greyhound is better for long trips than for short ones, financially.  Is that true?

    Re: Greyhound

Yes, Greyhound is economical... however, they are really, really, mean if you have children. I was travelling at night with my 6yr old son from FL to Chicago, and he was a little fussy about falling asleep. I tried to quiet him as best I could, and this mean bus driver lady told me she'd stop the bus and throw us out if I couldn't stop him.

Now mind you, this was a road with nothing in sight. Nice threat to strand a mother and small child.

I wouldn't ride on greyhound IF YOU PAID ME.

    Re: Greyhound

If something like this happened to my wife she would have filed dozens of complaints as soon as she gotten off the bus.  This is definitely not a nice thing to say to a mother.
