    Deals to Thailand?

I'm looking to fly out of SFO or LAX to Thailand this summer.  Does anyone have any ideas of a good airplane tickets to the area and when there good destination spots?

You should definitely, definitely, definitely spend some time in Bangkok. I know a lot of people rave about Phuket, the Gulf beaches and some of the up-country areas, but for my money the big city is hard to beat. Check out Sukhumvit for shopping and Rattanakosin Island for general sightseeing. There's a useful article here: http://www.faremax.com/articles/asia/thailand/bangkok.aspx

Do you think language is something you need to know, or do most people speak English?

Hello there, Faremax travellers !  :)

In Thailand, some of the people there understand English though most of them don't speak English that well.  I have not been there but a friend of mine told me what I can do when I get there, e.g., teach english, tutor and most of all and this is what i like... .shopping  :)  lot of cheapy items on sale...

I traveled from LAX to Phuket. You will pay around $700 for an airline ticket. Hotels have local and foreigner rate, so if you know someone there they might be able to get you a 50% discount.

    Re: Deals to Thailand?

Everyone I met speaks enough English, at least in the center of Bangkok. All you need to know is thanks and you'll get along fine. Thank you, is:

Cuponka   - if you are a girl

Cuponcup - if you are a man

You have to try tut-tut when you are there. tut-tut is more fun than taxi but more expensive. Before you get in a cab, insist that they put the meter on. If they refuse, get out and hail another cab. There are so many cabs in Bangkok that you can get a different one every minute, easily, so if the Taxi driver won't comply just get another one.

The place has heavy heavy traffic and massive traffic jams so expect some long waits in taxis. Everyone will mark their prices up heavily when they see a westerner, but who can blame them.

Apart from that the people are very friendly, and I loved Thailand.
