I've always considered taking a cruise but the idea of staying on a boat for extended periods of times doesn't seem as fun as flying to a destination and then partying the week away.  What are the advantages of taking a cruise and what should I expect from one?

I agree.. I don't know very much about cruises but it would be nice to try one one day.  I have heard about Mexican cruises and such, as well as Alaskan cruises.  Are they too crowded?  Worth the money?  Also, how much money can one expect to spend?

You said it.  Staying on board for extended periods of time can be a real pain in a neck.  If it wasn't for the casino I don't know if I would be able to survive.  I guess it all depends on a personality.  If you want to relax and do nothing but sunbathe and eat cruising is perfect for you.  For me I'd rather be in Miami, Cancun or Jamaica (Hedonism) for the spring break

My mother swears by cruises, up and down.  She's an addict.  Loves them.

Me, I got sick on the Boblo Boat, going to Boblo Island up in Michigan.  I've yet to try a cruise but, if she has her way, mother is dragging the children and I along on a trip down to Cozumel and such.

I think a lot depends on the cruises.  I mean, I've heard there are a lot that tend to be really dull, but I've  heard about some interesting ones too.  Just this winter, I spent a day making laurel wreaths and teaching my mum how to tie a toga for the toga party that they were supposed to be having on one of her cruises.  She's gone snorkling and she's swam with dolphins and manatees.  She loves shopping down in Mexico (and I always make her bring me back a bottle of Kaluha, which she can get for about $5.00 a fifth down there).  I don't think she does many of the gambling cruises...she looks for the ones with a busy itinerary and several different ports that they dock at.

I want to try cruising one day. It is quite expensive, isn't it? But the sea always makes me sick esp during rough weather. Cruise ship usually bigger, perhaps less sea sickness for people like me? Any idea?

I've always wanted to go on one, too, but with the recent spate of fires, people going missing and so on and so forth, I've gotten all paranoid. O well.

My mom's another one that swears by cruises - but she loves ANY kind of travel. She and my dad do a cruise at least every other year, sometimes more often, and they've made friends 'at table' that have lasted for years. She still talks about the party poopers on board who stayed behind when she hiked out onto an Alaskan glacier and tried her hand at dog-sledding, and her tour of the Yangtsze when they went to China. As far as expense goes - what looks like 'very expensive' in comparison to air travel slips into perspective when you consider that the price on a cruise includes travel, lodging AND meals for your entire trip. The only extras are tips, some shore activities and a few shipboard activities. And the gambling of course :).

My sister loves cruises.  She takes at least one every year.  Always on her cruises, they pull into port somewhere so everyone can get off and enjoy a day of the local sites and shopping, etc.  My other sister took an Alaskan cruise and then spent a week on a train & bus trip before going back to the ship.  Their video was very interesting (though exhaustive)

One of these days, I'm going to give a cruise a try. I have the feeling it's something I'd really enjoy, but I have to bring good company along. :)

Personally, I would not want to spend all that time for the travel period. The casinos might be nice, and a couple might have fun watching the sunset. I would rather get to the destination and do all that, plus other stuff.

I think cruises are worth it and the thing you need to understand is the amount of time and what you do is entirely up to you. Deciding which ship and activities you will want to do will be up to you. I think that cruises are really worth it as you will be able to see a lot of places all for one price.

That something you have to prepare yourself for because if you dont' you are going to go crazy. After so long you are going to get bored with the fact that you are secluded on board.

I think it depends on the person as to whether or not it is worth it to go on a cruise.  Some people enjoy the whole atmosphere.  Others would not want to be on a boat that long at all. 

I think there are cruises that actually have different time periods for which you can stay a certain amount of days. There are different lengths to every cruise. It's mostly about personal preference.
