As well as being an admin for the forum, I do like to travel a little myself sometimes :-)

Has anyone been to southern Africa lately? I'm thinking about South Africa, Namibia and maybe Botswana. Any recommendations?

Cape Town and the entire Cape peninsula is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Namibia's suddenly gotten a lot of press because of Angelina Jolie. I don't know a lot about it, but think there are some nice beach resorts.

I have never actually been there, but I have seen a lot of exotic plants that are native to South Africa and Madagascar. In turn, those two would be countries that I would consider.

I haven't been to southern Africa, but my Mum has - specifically to South Africa. They travelled all along the southern coast. Mum went on an organised tour, and really enjoyed it. She said it was really good.

Oh, and one of my friends lived there for five years. He said it was really beautiful, but had a high crime rate - he was mugged there.

I think that South Africa will be quite safe for a holiday if you go as part of an organised tour.

Yeah, I just going to ask about safety in South Africa, or in Africa in general. I know there are parts to avoid, like the Republic of Congo and surrounding areas.

What kind of safety precautions should you take, traveling with or without an organized tour?
