Oh, I am so hungry reading that! The worst thing I have ever heard of though is also British Chip shop fair-deep fried Mars bars!

Agreed!  Although thankfully they seem to have fallen out of fashion.

A greek friend of mine visited a few months ago, and she'd heard about them but didn't think they existed.  We had to look all over town to find somewhere willing to make one for her - most places refused pont blank.

I find that pub food is usually a hit or a miss, but more often than not I will give it a try because it is fast and filling and easy on the wallet.  When I travel by myself this is also the way I prefer to go because you can just walk ina nd not worry about eating alone, which can sometimes be a little odd at fancier restaurants.

I'd say usually it's the best place to go to, but I had a miss once where I stumbled into a pub that was not "local" but an imitation job! It was awful.

I enjoy eating at pubs, and having some draft beer. This reminds me of an English couple we met on vacation in Mexico.

At their local pub in Ontario where they now live, they have something called "Chip Buddies." It's french fries in a hamburger bun.

Dr. Atkins must be rolling in his grave.

It took me a while to figure out what you meant by chip buddies.....lol. It's chip butties, not buddies, the name being taken from the butter you spread on the bread! And they are to die for-Dr Atkins should try them ;)

Thanks for clarifying that. I'd never seen the name written, and I didn't hear the guy properly. I've still never tried them, but I would like to some time.
