    New Food... or Fast Food?

I like trying new restaurants and new cuisines when traveling.  I rarely want to stop at a familiar fast food joints that can be found along every highway in the US and often in world cities.  I enjoy trying different cuisines, too.  Anyone else?

I'm somewhere in between. I'm a vegetarian with allergies, so I find it hard to experiment that much with food, but I do try.

I hate fast food with a passion though, so I tend to go to simple places and eat something 'local' but still 'safe'. If that makes any sense.

I also hate fast foods and enjoy trying something new.  Sometimes however, I want to go to a chain restaurant where I know they have something I am familiar with.

I did a little of both on my recent vacation.  The one new place sounded fantastic from

the menu but didn't turn out to taste so great... but it didn't stop me from still choosing

that as my favorite way to eat while I'm on vacationMusic

When I am on vacation, I cut out the fast food.

I'm more adventurous in new food. When I visited Thailand, I tried eating in a Thailand Restaurant. I have chosen the Tomyam menu. Without my knowledge the soup was hot and chilli but it really tasted good.

Re: New Food... or Fast Food?

I'm always in favor of trying new food... it's part of enjoying whatever place I happen to be in.  The only occassional exception is if I get fast food in an airport during a stop-over, for the sake of time and ease of choice.

Fast Food for me is a little bit boring. I only prefer fast-food if there's no other choice. But I noticed that there were many choices of new food when you're travelling from place to place. Traditional foods are delicious.

It is boring, yes.  If I already know what's on the menu and what everything tastes like, it

really isn't much fun for me.  If I'm really hungry, I'm always glad to grab a familiar fast

food burger but other times I want local food.

I try to avoid fast food in general, but I enjoy it when I have it.

When I'm on vacation, I like to try local food. We have been to the Hard Rock Cafe in Puerto Vallarta, but usually I don't like to go to the chains when I'm on a "destination" vacation.

When we are on vacation, we like to try new places to eat but at times we want a chain restaurant so that it will be familiar to us.  I guess at that point we are beginning to miss home.

My youngest son has a collection of Hard Rock Cafe T-shirts.  Smile

Re: New Food... or Fast Food?

I tend to eat a lot worse when I am vacation. By that I mean all eating out as being worse since I cook a very healthy diet at home, but I don't increase the fast food hugely. I think it has it's place for a snack or when you are running short on time between activities, but I enjoy my food too much to waste money on a lot of fast food.

I'll try anything once. If it sucks I won't get it again, but would rather try something new than just float on doing the same old.

Re: New Food... or Fast Food?

I can't understand people who travel somewhere exotic then find the nearest McDonalds - doesn't that take the fun out of the trip? You're meant to be experiencing a new culture, not trying to make life on holiday the same as life at home.

The one exception to that I guess would be if you were sent away from home for a long time by your employer, but even then, why not live a little?

Re: New Food... or Fast Food?

I did this once. I was stationed on an RAF base in Holland, and the food on based sucked eggs. I couldn't afford to eat somewhere nice, so it was off to the golden arches.
