Best Time for Egypt? Rest of Africa?

When would you suggest is the best time to vacation in Africa, and specifically Egypt?

Well, right now isn't a good time to go there.  Period.  That's unfortunate.  But if things do calm down there,  you really want to go late fall or winter.  The summer is unbelievably hot!

When I was in Egypt it was just turning into winter time.  It does get cold in the winter, but just kind of a "slip on a jacket and you're okay" cold, at least in Cairo where I was.

That sounds exactly the way I like it!  Okay, that pretty much makes up my mind.  I have a problem with extreme heat.  And yes, I realize it needs to be when the environment is safer.  Paradise

Well if you can go, it's amazing.  I loved Egypt and was just taken aback by the pyramids, the Sphynx, and all that jazz.  I still kick myself for not taking one of the Nile cruises, though.

That cruise would be an awesome addition to the itinerary, yes.  Did you see the night show at the

pyramids when it's all lit up?

They light up the pyramids? I would love to travel to Egypt in the next few years... but it's disappointing to hear that they've wired the pyramids up with lights. Doesn't it take away from some of the ancient "majesty"? Could be just me though...

I think its one of those things where they light them from below, with the lights pointing up them. Not so horrid all told.

A friend of mine went about a year ago and loved Egypt. I think she went around June or July.

Where do you think that it would be safe to visit in Egypt now?

I guess another way to figure out the best time would be to find out when flights are cheapest and most expensive.
When flights are cheapest , I'd assume there would be less tourists. Which personally, I'd enjoy more.

That's hard to say because terrorist attacks can happen anywhere in ANY country in that region.

Personally I feel safe in Cairo.  That doesn't mean that another attack couldn't happen in Cairo,

but I can't really see that *any* world destination would be "safe" during these times.
