Completely true! When I was in Turkey there were McDonald's all over the place.  The fries didn't taste quite the same, though.

I remember a few years back they used to have a slogan "6 Billion Served".  That covers all the people in the world.  I wonder what the number is now?

It looks like you don't like them very much Wink  Is there a particular reason?

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

We are just getting a McDonald's in our little town of 3,000.  There are about two dozen of them in the city just 10 miles away though.

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

For me, it's good to see something familiar no matter where I am, but I stay away from familiar places.  Hehe Okay, I'll explain that.  It's probably like a security blanket... if I'm in a country where all I can find to eat are "chilled monkey brains" (sorry, old movie reference) Big Smile  I'd be so happy to find one of these chains.  For most of my traveling, though, I prefer to try new restaurants, mom and pops, new ethnic foods, etc.

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

Yuck!  Chilled monkey brains sound awful.

When we travel, we also like to see the familiar places.  Somehow it's comforting to know they are available, just in case you don't care for some of the other choices.

In the states we do like to go to familiar chain restaurants and get a meal that we know we will like.  It's fun to try some new things part of the time too.

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

I hate fast food places. McDonalds in particular. They prey on kids with their advertising and get people polluting their bodies with unhealthy junk.

If there were fewer places like McDonalds then maybe smaller, nicer chains that do real food would have half a chance of stopping open in local malls.

The guy who runs a franchise near me also owns another shop next door that serves 'real' food - freshly made sandwiches, meat baguettes made from real freshly carved meat, paninis, that sort of thing - he's always taking staff off that shop to keep up with the queues in McDonalds, and he said that given half the chance he'd close the other place.

I kinda agree with you, etali, but I think responsibility is on the parents.  If you educate your kids about these places and eat healthy food at home most likely your child is not going to be "hooked" on fast food.  And I personally don't mind eating at McD or Burger King once in a blue moon.  But I always tell them why we don't eat there more often so they are aware.  I personally think that real "evil" are the soft drinks.  Majority of kids today cannot live couple of hours without drinking this garbage.  And once again its up to a parent to teach their children about these things.  Just my 2 cents

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

Someone told me that the menu at McDonald's in other countries are a little different than they are in the US.  Is anyone here aware of that and in what way is it different?  Better, I hope.

We used to like McDonald's McRib sandwhich and I've noticed they are featuring it again.  Maybe I'll go there sometime.

It's true Ozzie because I have memorable experience about this issue. Not all Mcdonalds have the same food menu. Even Mcdonalds menu in Brunei is not the same in the Philippines.

Do they all have their famous burgers and fries and simply add other items to the menu.  Surely there aren't any McDonald's that don't have those awful burgers.  lol   My husband and I do like to stop at McDonald's for a quick coke.  They offer the best price on soda for seniors....48 cents!   We like their $1 hot fudge sundaes too but hate those burgers.

    Re: mcdonalds everywhere!

I try and avoid fast food when I am travelling.  But I must admit that sometimes when I am tired and stressed and already sick from eating something dodgy, seeing a McDonalds can be something of a releif.
