Has anyone been snorkeling in Mexico?  Where's your favorite Mexican destination for snorkeling?  We went snorkeling in Puerto Vallarta.  It was a fun experience overall but a little disappointing as we didn't see many interesting fish (or really any fish).  But it was fun to be able to see under the water.  The day we went the water was full of jellyfish.  They assured us though that if we got stung they had creams to reduce the pain.  That was comforting!  The water was also very cold.  It took your breath away when you jumped in.  I don't really  know how to swim so it was a bit scary for me at first.  I was a bit panicked when I tried to breath through the snorkel.  It took me a few minutes to hold my face under water and breath normally.  I would definitely snorkel again but would want to go somewhere with better underwater scenery.  Others on the trip said they liked the snorkeling on the east side of Mexico better.  Anyone else have any opinions?

I have never snorkeled, but I've been to Playa del Carmen which is near Cozumel, and I think the snorkeling is very good there. There's also an area where you can swim with dolphins.

I've seen someone who claimed to be stung by a jellyfish in Cancun. It seemed to be more frightening than dangerous in her case, and it was suggested that the jellyfish may have been attracted by her navel jewelry.

why would you snorkel in mexico when you cant even drink the water. I dont understand that one.

There is a big difference between drinking water that comes from the tap, and the water in the ocean. The water that you drink is that which fell as rain into reservoirs, and was collected by other methods. It's then treated and filtered and fed into the town supplies.

The water of the ocean on the other hand-well for a start you shouldn't be drinking it. All that salt would make you very sick. But it's not treated the same way nor does it come from the same source. There may be pollution, but it's not the same.

I think the quality of your dive really depends on where you go diving.  I have been diving in some really beautiful spots in Mexico in the past four years.  Oh and getting stung by a jelly fish definitely does hurt, but it does go away eventually.

definately some great snorkling in Playa del Carmen especially in the cenotes!
