    Eating on bus trips

WHen you take bus trips, do you prefer to take as much of your own food as possible to avoid buying food at the bus stops, or do you prefer to eat whatever you can grab when the bus rolls into a station?

wouldn't you just love to beeeeeeeeeee me? "-)

    Re: Eating on bus trips

I haven't traveled by bus for many years and can't even remember people eating on the bus.  I guess I would prefer to eat meals when the bus stopped,  but I'm sure I would have some snack items and a water bottle in my purse.

Snacks probably in my travel bag for long hauls between stops, but I'd wait for "real" food until there's a stop.  If there wouldn't be anything good... well then I guess I'd get really hungry and just wait for the next stop.  Big Smile

When we used to travel by bus as a child my mom would pack full meals for us.  I think it saved money and kept us out of her hair for a while because we were busy eating.

    Re: Eating on bus trips

Service station food is insanely expensive, so I prefer to avoid it if I can, and pack my own food. However I hate annoying passengers than bring noisy food or food with strong odours on board. I tend to pack plain sandwiches (something non-smelly and that doesn't go soggy, like a Jam or spread), and snack bars. I try to avoid crisps or sweets in noisy packets.

I take enough to give me a small food boost, but not to fill me up. I usually eat at my destination because I'm ravenous.

Sounds like a good plan.  I should really even do more of this when I'm traveling by car.  It would save time and money on long trips to have some sandwiches in a cold pack or even small cooler.

    Re: Eating on bus trips

I used to bring my own food and drinks. I just can't trust some food sellers in the bus station. I love to bring junkfoods, juices and softdrinks. If its a long trip, I bring my own barbeque. It's easy to eat it inside the bus.

    Re: Eating on bus trips

It's been a long time since I travelled by bus, but I think I'd take bottled water and maybe sandwiches that wouldn't be smelly or messy.

I think after hours in the bus that it would be nice to eat a meal in a restaurant if that was possible.

That's usually what I prefer, too.  Eating in a vehicle is necessary sometimes and I don't really mind it too much, but I do prefer waiting for a hotel if that's possible.  Even fast food in the room is better than eating in the car usually.  (that surely goes for buses, too).

    Re: Eating on bus trips

I haven't been on a bus trip since my daughter was very young. She and I were together. We didn't have any food with us and by the time we got to the first stop, we were starving (especially her).

After we ate, we barely had time to buy snacks before it was time to get back on the bus. Our trip was an overnight one. Sad

    Re: Eating on bus trips

It's advisable to bring different kinds of food if you travel with kids. My younger sister really annoyed me everytime we have trip. She kept on asking for food and drinks. I understand she's a kid. I just hated to bring many things during trip.

    Re: Eating on bus trips

I prefer to bring my own snacks and munchies from home.  But when we do stop at a bus stop, I like to buy a cold drink or a cup of coffee.

I usually bring my own foods when I travel.  I know that the foods (snacks, drinks and hot meals) are very expensive.  This is also one way of saving money and you are not also sure that the food from bus station, or gas station are clean and secure.

I love eating if I travel.. so I bring my own pack.........

Good point, schatzi... it's truly risky sometimes to eat at some places.  I usually take that risk but

once in a while I do what you suggested and just take my own packed food along with me, at least for

the first part of a trip.
