    Travel Advisory Against Mexico?

I recently saw a headline that said the Canadian government was advising against travelling to a specific city in Mexico, but I can't remember which one. It wasn't one of the more popular destinations that I'm familiar with.

Did anyone else hear about that?

Yes, on October 30 Department of State issued a brand new travel warning to Oaxaca City.  You can get full details here.

    Sounds nasty out there!

Do people go there very often, or are advisories just issued routinely about destinations even if they aren't tourist ones?

    Re: Travel Advisory Against Mexico?

I think advisories are issued whenever a danger is identified in an area.

If so, that would help people travelling on business, too. There was a lot of coverage in the news about the Canadian government helping people with Canadian passports out of the middle east recently.

I hadn't heard of Oaxaca before this advisory, and I've been to Mexico several times.

The travel advisory is very helpful to those who are not aware of the latest issue. Do you think it's related to the issue why passport is needed to enter US?

I seriously doubt that Oaxaca events have anything to do with latest Passport requirements Smile Apparently the whole mess started after teachers decided to strike and asked for higher wages.  You can read more here.

Thank's for the information faremax. It's already loud and clear for me. I just hope all travellers are aware of the situation in Mexico.
