    Venezuela U.S. relations?

Is Venezuela not a recommended spot for U.S. citizens? Or does the country and its people not really reflect upon how Chavez and the government feel about the U.S?

From what I hear general population feels ok toward US tourists but then again I am sure there are those who would love to do something nasty (kidnapping, assault, etc).  I personally would not go to Venezuela right now.  I am sure Ahmedinajad feels exactly the opposite Big Smile

I'm not sure why Venezuela in particular would feel that way.

Was there a specific event that led Chavez to his Anti-American position?

Not that I am aware but there must have been something.  All I know that my relatives used to go to Venezuela every year and they loved it.  But they stopped as soon as Chavez came to power.

I know someone who's vacationed in Venezuela, but that may have been as long as twenty years ago now. I don't remember hearing about any anti US sentiment from that time.

Now, he owns property in the Dominican Republic and spends most of his time away from Canada there.
