You know, when I read this title, I was expecting to find a topic talking about the kind of souvenirs that hotels DON'T want you to take!

No, nothing here. Car dealerships have been far nicer to us than hotels.

I take promotional things like pens and small pads of paper. I've taken bars of soap, too.

In some cases, I've bought shot glasses or mugs with the hotel logo on them.

I must be a sad case. I have never, ever taken anything other than the mints on my pillow. Honest to a fault!

Yes, we have been given things like this.  What I like best is a basket of goodies to eat and

drink that we got a few times at a favorite hotel.  It's something to look forward to when

    arriving.

That's what I thought, too, when I read the subject line.  Embarrassed  I was about to go into the schpiel about when someone takes hotel towels, everyone else pays higher costs to stay there.  hehe  Then I thought I'd add that I don't understand why anyone would want those scratchy towels anyhow.  Smile  My own soft towels are so much better than Hilton or Trump towels, so I never quite "got it" why that happens.

I think that some people just like having something with the name on it, and still others are just sticky fingered and can't help themselves. People like getting things for free, even if they are not supposed to.

The worst case of this I've ever seen is a hotel... maybe in Florida, I can't recall exactly, but

one of the huge paintings was missing from the wall.  I guess that person had graduated from

swiping something common like towels or ashtrays!  Sad

Whoever took that painting must have been pretty desperate for something to decorate their walls with.....or, it could have been someone who took it just to see if they could get away with it.

I haven't ever taken anything from a hotel other than items that are intended to be taken.  I've never seen anything in the rooms that I didn't already have at home anyway.

    Re: Hotel Souvenirs

I hate to think how they pulled this off. I have known silly things happen when a pub was changing hands for instance, like mirrors going out of fire exits-but unless they shimmied out of the fire exit themselves-how did they do it unnoticed?! And most hotels now keep credit card info on the people that stay, so why couldn't they just charge it to them?

    Re: Hotel Souvenirs

I'm curious to know how the guest abled to get the painting. I even can't imagined how they passed in the main door of the hotel after checking out. Maybe the security of such hotel lacks discipline and proper training.

    Re: Hotel Souvenirs

I've never been given a sourvenir after checking out from a hotel.  I usually just swipe a beer mat from a hotel restraunt as a souvenir.  I don't understand the people who take towels, etc, either.

    Re: Hotel Souvenirs

No, I am guessing that hotels do not do this on a regular basis, right?  Do they only do this when there is a special promotion?  I have traveled with young kids and not really gotten any perks at all for them except getting a free breakfast and if I remember correctly, one of them got to eat for free for all her meals because she was under 10 (which certainly helped with the final checkout bill!)

    Re: Hotel Souvenirs

I stayed at the Hilton in Chicago not to long ago for a spa package and walked out of there with a bunch of nice stuff.  Got to keep these awesome slippers, the mask robe and a backet of spa goodies.  Someone was having a promotion for their products and they gave it to the hotel for all their guests that weekend.  Also got some Gift certificates to some other spas and salons in the city that were also going to be carrying the brand so I could go to those establishments later.
