    Victim of Crime

I have been very lucky in my many travels to never encounter crime, and to never lose a bag. The worst that has happen to me is my luggage being badly handled (on every, single, trip) by the airlines.

But we see around us signs from the transport police and so on warning us of problems. Having not seen them in so many problems, have I just been lucky, or is it really not so prevelant?

Have you been a victim of transport crime?

    Re: Victim of Crime

I suppose I also have been fortunate as nothing bad has happened to my luggage during travel.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I encountered lots of bad experiences in my previous travel. First, I lost my handphone in the train. Next, my shoulder bag was snatched in the market and I was robbed too. It's maybe because I was very careless in my previous travel but now I learned many things.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I've never had any problems with crime on a vacation. I have a friend whose pocket was picked by a young girl on a train in Europe, though.

And what about travel at home, say commuting to work? Car jacking, train station robberies-I'd like to hear about it all.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I have seen people actually do some crazy things oin the airport. I have seen security run through chasing someone who I guess got into some trouble. I'm not sure what happened but it happened.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I had someone try to steal my bag once, but the strap was looped under my seat, so he didn't manage.  That was the first and only time it's ever happened, but after that incident I know that it is worth staying paranoid, just in case.

    Re: Victim of Crime

It seems like every time I go somewhere, I lose my bag. I can't get passed it. It just seems like my luck which isn't great at all.

    Re: Victim of Crime

You should always make sure that you have your bags with you in order not to get anything stolen from the airport.  There are always pickpocketers/thiefs at the airport looking for a target.

If you consider having your luggage lost by an airlines a crime too, I am also lucky in that regard because I have never had anything lost or stolen for that matter.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I have never been a victim of a crime when I was travelling.  In some places and cities I have been to I actually have felt safer.  There was one time that the day I got home from a trip to a big city and was taking public transportation home when someone tried robbing me.  I think I was mistook for an out of towner because I had the bags with me.

    Re: Victim of Crime

I haven't had any problem commuting to work personally, but sometimes I see situations that are dicey.

It can be quite stressful for the transit drivers to deal with the various characters they pick up at all hours of the day and night.

    Re: Victim of Crime

Other than losing items due to my own irresponsibility, I've never had any trouble. And they always warn you to watch out for pickpockets, but I've never been a victim as yet.

    Re: Victim of Crime

The worst that has ever happened to me was many years ago when my first wife's mother arrived in Virginia to visit us, and the airline couldn't find her luggage. A day later, they called me and said they found the bag. They wanted me to come to the airport and pick it up. I told them that as they had misplaced they could bloody well bring it to my house. They actually did. I think this was United Airlines.
