    Wrong Car

Have any of you ever gotten the wrong car when you have gone to rent?

One time my sister and brother went to pick up the car and they rented just a nice sudan and then ened up getting a really nice convertable. They  did not mind at all but it must be hard if you ask for a van and get a two seater.

    Re: Wrong Car

Sometimes what happens is the rental agency sells out of the car the reservation asks for so they just upgrade them to something nicer at the same fees. I've had this happen to  me before. I got an SUV at a midsize price. It was great.

Ebittner, what ever happened? That's so funny. Did it end up being a mistake of the company or did they simply hop in the wrong vehicle? I'm assuming the former but do tell the ending!

    Re: Wrong Car

I have at one time.  I rented a mid size luxury car, and ended up with this really tiny barely fit 4 people car.  I can't remember what it was, but I know we were all cramped.  It was not a car for people over 5 feet tall.  My 12 year old (5' 5") and myself (5' 9") seemed to be very cramped in our seats.  She was sitting in the back, and her legs were very cramped because we had to have our seats back all the way to drive or to ride.  It was horrible, thank goodness it was a short trip.  I talked to the company about it, and they stated that they have the right to change it according to availability.  I was not happy at all.

    Re: Wrong Car

If there's a mistake and I get a bigger car, then I'm fine.  If there's a mistake and I get a smaller car, then I am not fine!  They can find me a luxury car but I'm not settling.  Usually it works lol.

I've never gotten the wrong car but am enjoying reading the posts since we will be renting one next month in Florida.

    Re: Wrong Car

Enterprise made a mistake and gave our car to someone else, but then they upgraded us and we didn't mind at all.

    Re: Wrong Car

I haven't rented a car often enough to run into this problem. The last time I rented a car was to drive around Ireland, and it worked out okay.

Reading everyone's stories reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where he goes to pick up a car and they don't have it!

    Re: Wrong Car

It's happened to me a lot, but I've always gotten something euqivalent or better.

    Re: Wrong Car

Recently when i was at Budget picking up a car, the car in the slot was definitely not the one that was written on our paper forms.  However, the service there was such a pain in the butt that we opted not to report the discrepency and just drove off. No one noticed, not even the man who had to check out all our paperwork and verification info upon leaving the lot. They are so incompetent at Budget. I heard like three people complaining to customer service inside about the same wrong car problem too.

    Re: Wrong Car

So far I haven't gotten a wrong car. I'm very sensitive in renting a car that's best for me. Do you think it only means that I'm smart enough in renting a car?

    Re: Wrong Car

Yes, we got the wrong car once and it was great.  We got a beautiful Lincoln Continental!  We really enjoyed the comfort and the smooth ride since we needed to drive about 4 hours to our destination.  When we got there, we received good treatment at the parking garages and lots.  :)

    Re: Wrong Car

We've rented a few times and had good luck getting what we booked, I think.

Although I have heard of people being upgraded for no extra charge, too. That would be a nice surprise.

My daughter and I got a free upgrade once. It was a sportier car than I would have rented and my daughter loved it. She wanted us to buy one when we got home. Children...Right Hug

    Re: Wrong Car

We've never been downgraded but we (like some others here) did receive an SUV once rather than a sedan because that was all they had.  If we had to take a smaller vehicle you better believe I would be demanding some sort of compensation for the inconvenience!
