    Travel Sickness Cures-Non Medical

American's on the board may have seen the Mythbusters address this. Some people believe strongly that non medical methods of treating travel sickness work. Such things include ginger, lemon juice and peppermint oil as well as 'seabands'-pressure point stimulating bands that you wear on the wrist.

Is there anything that you have found to work, or do you just take medicine instead?

I used to have a peppermint oil in my bag as well as candies. It's effective for me compared to medicine like tablets and syrups.

I just eat crackers, they always settle my stomach and eventually after the or during the trip I'm just fine.

Crackers of some kind usually will help me, too... it may be the salt on them because I've found that other salty snacks work just as well for me.  In particular, potato chips work just as well as crackers. I've not needed any medication for motion sickness.

Actually just about any food can help some popel. For some people having the stomach too empty is the main cause of motion sickness, and for others being too full-this you can only learn by experimentation. I had the mechanism of this explained to me by a nurse once but I do not remember it now.

I try not to eat too much nor too littel when I'm traveling because I know how my body does. But I always carry a pack of crackers and a small bottle of vinegar. That was a granny recipe from when I was younger.

I think there might be some truth to peppermint.  I've read that ginger works too, although I'm not sure about that one.  I just eat something plain to settle my stomach (plain sandwiches for me, instead of crackers) and that usually works.

I tried those wrist band things once, and they didn't seem to do anything.

I often thought that seabands are mainly a head cure. I am sorry-I am tired here and unable to think of the real term. I mean that they work because people believe that they work, the same as accupuncture and similar things.

There is actually an electronic version of the band.  And I can personally guarantee you that if you wear it you will forget about motion sickness forever.  I love deep see fishing and its been an absolute lifesaver for me.  I used Dramamine before the band (2 tablets per trip) and it did prevent nausea but it also made me very sleepy.  Not a good way to start a day if you ask me.  Plus, as all medications, it damages your liver and who knows what else.

Exactly-all medications have side effects, and if you can avoid them then obviously it is to your benefit in the long term. I am a little curious though. You said you will forget about travel sickness-is that because it works or because the band is uncomfortable or something, and so distracts you from the nausea?

Sorry, I should have been more clear.  It does work and it feels exactly like a hand watch. Plus there are different settings to accommodate your every need.

Sometimes travel sickness is just psychological. Don't treat your sickness like a baby. Ignored it and simply enjoy yourself on your travel. There are many entertainment facilities, chose what's best for you inorder to forget your travel sickness.
