    Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I see that in some states the age varies in this country, but on the whole drivers can get a license at 16. It has been shown that in states that allow it at 15, there is a higher number of accidents amongst the young drivers, and also that in countries with tougher restrictions, there are less. Some states have requirements such as no more than one under 18 year old in a car unless an over 21 year old person is there and so on, but why not have tougher laws?

Why does this country not do more to protect it's young people? Why do you really need to have a 16 year old behind the wheel anyway-16 year old can be, lets face it, idiots. The UK has rules that you cannot get licensed before you are 17, and then there are limits on where you can drive.

Even that one year makes a difference in our safety.

I think it my state there are new rules since a few years ago when I got a driver's license.  I believe kids have to have their permit longer and are almomst 17, if not 17 until they can take their test.

We cant drive unless we are of 18. Thats preety bad I guess. People get licence in lower ages in other countries.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I think that it is wonderful, not bad. There are so many accidents in young people in this country, and there are studies that have shown that it would reduce if the driving age were increased. I'm all for a higher age limit personally.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I already said before that here in the states(most) you can be 15 with a permit. Which means you can drive with a license driver and you can't drive after 7 p.m. And 16 you can get your license. I think they should up it to 21 since at 21 you are legal to drink.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

Wouldn't allowing driving the same year as drinking probably cause more problems with people being excited at being allowed to do two 'new' things at once? Either that or stagger the licenses like they do with Bikes over here, so you can drive, but only a practical / boring car, not a sports car that can do well over the motorway speed limit?

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I would personally think that would make sense, but then a bunch of things here don't make sense. You can die for your country, but not drink? How does that work? Know what I mean?

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

Ha! I have been saying this for years I swear that I have and everyone thought that I was crazy for saying it. If you are allowed to carry a guns then why not a drink? hmmm. This country is funny like that.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

The Land Transportation Office in my place will only issue a driving liscense if you're 18 years old. Young drivers commonly encountered road accidents because of carelessness and drunk driving. I think 15 is too young to have a driving liscense.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

Nah you can't have one at 15, it's a remedial license. Like if you were 15 you couldn't drive without your parent in the car with you. But  I mean you can have one at 16 which is still too young as well.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

Parent or no parent-no 15 year old should be allowed behind the wheel of a car. 15 year olds are too hormonal, too easily distracted, too flighty-it's just way too dangerous.

I would not be at all sad if the driving age nation wide was raised to 18, or even 21.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I think that is should be raised to 21 because thats when it's legal to drink. So why not make it that age, it only makes so much sense to do so, doesn't it?

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I encountered a little problem in getting for a driver liscense in other country. I can't imagine why there's a need for others to pay under the table just to have a driving liscense. I think it's not right but I really saw it.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I am not so sure that 21 is a good age either-I really don't know WHAT is good. 21 seems awfully high-it seems to me that 18 would be a good age. I know that at 15-18 I personally would not have had a hard time driving, but then I am a geek, totally square. So making it 21 would overly punish the geeks amongst us.

Re: Lowest Drivers License Age Requirements

I have to agree with you there!  Why is it that you have to wait until you are 18 to be able to vote and yet (here in Canada as well) be as young as 16 in order to get a license?  Why is that?  You are right that a 16 year old's mind is definitely not always where it should be especially now if they have cell phones or even friends in the car with them.

Here where I live, there is a graduated driving program.  First off, a 16 year old or such beginner is only allowed to drive with a licensed driver, then they have to take another test before they move on, but still...
