    Smelly passengers

I know someone on this forum has experienced a smelly passenger, if not someone who sat next to them at least someone that was on the bus. ?I sat next to this guy for a total of 18 hours on this trip and he smelled like a bag of onions. I was sick the whole entire trip. I tried to say something to him about it but you never know why people smell liek that. And even though I was offended, I didn't want to offend him.

That would be rough sitting by someone who smelled like onions for that long.  But I too would not want to offend someone and probably wouldn't really say anything.

I don't really like being near most kinds of smells when it's coming from a person (like certain

perfumes that give me a headache) but if it's going to be a smelly passenger, I think onions might

be one of the better smells.  Big Smile

I've been lucky on most trips that I haven't had to put up with bad body odour from a passenger - just bad smelling food from people who didn't think twice when they packed their lunches. I hate smells, I get sick when I have to travel and there's a strong odour, but really you don't have much choice once you're on the bus do you?

Oh goodness, I unfortunately had to put up with a couple of people who had bad body odor. I mean really it made my trip so bad that I was in a bad mood by the time I got to my destination.

Well, he offended you, didn't he?  Even if you did mention anything to him, it is not like he could have a shower right then and there.  But if there was room, you could have moved into another seat.  Perhaps you could carry perfume and spritz that on yourself in order to mask the odour of the other person?  Or would that be rude too?

    Re: Smelly passengers

Was onions all you had to deal with?  The worst, and only bus trip I will ever take was on a road from Madrid to Sevilla for a festival, the trains were all sold out and plane tickets were to expensive.

The trip went through a lot of country roads and stopped at super small villages, the townspeople only had the bus sometimes to get from one village to the next.  On one of these village stops this older farmer got on the bus and sat down next to me, phew.

Smelt like manure.  I talked to him for a little while since I was trying to be polite and he ended up telling me that he kept goats and chickens which he had just finished cleaning up their pens and was heading to his sisters to help her and her husband with theirs.

Had to lather myself in lotion just to get the smell out of my nose.

Phew, that IS bad. But to tell you the truth, I'm sort of used to that smell, growing up in Switzerland near cows. Still, sitting next to someone who smells like manure is terrible, although I might prefer that to somebody who smells like trash. I mean, literally trash. I was with a friend once on the bus and this guy comes in and sits down next to my friend. We had to ride for quite awhile and he smelled as if he had just gotten out of a trashcan.

    Re: Smelly passengers

These are unfortunate trips. I guess that sort of thing is most likely to happen in the cheapest means of transportation. I've experienced some short similar trips using the city's transit system.
