    Day Trips?

How far are you willing to go for a day trip?

I hate setting out early, travelling, getting somewhere, then having to watch the time to get back to the train station or whatever - I usually spend the entire day dreading the journey home.

What do you think? Do you prefer to take a few days out to go to places futher from home? I can't be the only person who dislikes day trips?

I like to have a day trips. It's enjoyable to see the beauty of nature especially if you travel by ship or cruise. You'll see dolphins and other sea creatures underwater for real.

    Re: Day Trips?

It depends on how far I have to travel. I have taken way too many rushed trips in my life for appointments to like doing them that way, but if I have a decent amount of time at the destination, then I don't mind. But I really hate when I have to start out at stupid o'clock.

    Re: Day Trips?

Day trips are sometimes annoying especially in times of bad luck. I had a day trip before where I lost my wallet and bracelet at the same day. The place was very crowded and I lost some of my personal things without any knowledge. Now I prefer to have a day trip in a non-populated area at least it's safe.

That was a very unlucky trip for you! However i think that you can be unlucky and lose things no matter where you are-you could have just as easily done the same at home as you did whilst away on your trip.

Nevertheless, I learned a lesson from my previous day trip. So now I don't bring large amount of cash during my travels. It's better to wear fancy jewelries just to prevent misfortunes.

Agreed-there is never a need to take bigger risks than you can be sure of recouping. Taking small sums of cash and not flaunting jewelry is always sensible.

    Re: Day Trips?

I agree about starting out at crazy times in the morning - although I have to do that for longer trips too sometimes, so I guess it can't be helped.

I'd have thought there would be more danger from travelling for a longer period of time when it comes to losing cash or belongings - you're likely to have taken more money with you, so more chance of losing it...

    Re: Day Trips?

Instead of dreading the trip home and focusing on that all day instead of the destination, why not plan it out so you spend another hundred dollars or so on a hotel for the night and make the trip back in the morning.  I usually plan on spending anywhere from one to three hundred dollars on a day trip depending on what I want to do and see and where I am going.  I am a pretty active traveler so I like to get out there and do things and that always ends up costing more than typical sightseeing.

    Re: Day Trips?

My favourite destination for a day trip from home is Niagara Falls.

I like to stay at least one night and do some walking around the museums and tourist shop areas, then have dinner somewhere interesting.

I also like to drive through Niagara-on-the-Lake while I'm there.
