    That absolute.

We were in the club in the new year night. When we wanted to stay at hotel later, We cant found any rooms in hotel. Finally we went to my friends apartement. All hotels were booked in advanced according to the hotel staff.

My hotel was booked for the holidays. Now that New Years has passed, it has gone down. Today the hotel was listed at 26% and 27% yesterday.

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

Thats not hard to believe at all because most people come in from out of town. So most of them stay in hotel rooms because of the holiday season. If you don't book ahead of time, then you aren't going to have much of a choice when you need a room.

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

In our area it's not only holidays but also the big parades and Presidential functions that have hotels booked out. Before I actually moved here, I came for a vacation. I tried to get a hotel near DC for 4th July weekend and was booking 10 weeks in advance. The closest I could get was almost 60 miles away.....

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

Some hotels are very crowded during holidays. I've noticed there are many lost personal belongings of the guests. I guess it's a good idea if the hotel management will add more securities during holiday seasons in hotels.

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

I know over the New Year period a 'restraunt' near me (a pub that serves food and has aspirations far higher than it should) filled up the hotel (read B&B) on the floor above by holding a 'Traditional' New Year party.  They charged prices way above what the food and party was worth and people flocked to it like sheep.

I think the festive spirit makes people want to do something special, and they'll book up anywhere available.

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

Well, many people often seem to have the same ideas during holidays, so hotels are booked to the seams every time. I remember one time asking a taxi driver which hotel he thought had few guests. Fortunately, his advice was right on the money!

That doesn't surprise me-it's the cabbies who are taking people to the hotels most of the time, so they know which places in town are not being visited often. If they are not sure themselves, they can normally check in with their dispatcher and get advice.

Have you noticed the room rates of hotel on holidays? I've stayed in an expensive room before because I don't have any choice. Most of the cheaper rooms are fully occupied.

    Re: Hotels on Holiday

Hotels on the actual day of Christmas are generally quite quiet because everyone wants to be with family on that day.  But shortly after (say the following day) people are travelling either to go home, skiing trips or the like, then it starts to get busy again.

New Years is another story because generally many people want to be at a party on New Year's Eve and if they plan to drink alot, they will actually stay over night at the hotel.
