Let the good times Roll !!!!

When I was a teen my family use to travel by bus from California to Missouri. My mother has always been afraid to fly. We use to have so much fun traveling through diffent states, changing buses and meeting new people. Can anyone tell me what happen to the good old days. Buses tickets are high, some buses smell, the people smell and why do you have to pay to use the bathroom? . Its not the same as it use to be.

There's only one thing constant in this world and that is CHANGE. People nowadays are more on business to earn for a living. Public toilets are not for free. All kinds of fares for transportation are increasing. Crimes happen all the time. That's the reality today. So there's a need for us to adapt changes all the time.

Sorry but I LIKE that you have to pay for public toilets! Generally they are cleaner than the free ones-at least where I am from, because the money you pay goes to pay a bathroom attendant. I do agree that the prices of buses and trains now are daylight robbery.

I feel in a paid toilet, there are people to take care of the cleanliness. If unpaid the responsibility, to clean the toilet , lies with the transport department and depend upon their efficiency. Naturally, frequency of cleaning costs money. If they are maintained by contacters, they will ensure fequent cleaning  to enhance the income!

Exactly, and that for me is the main selling point-they NEED to be clean to keep people paying to go in there. So far, I haven't been disappointed.

I think it's better if the goverment will also provide a free toilet for public in some areas. Not all people can afford to pay a single cents for using a toilet. The tendency if there's no public toilets, some will leave their mess on parks, streets or even urinates in corners of the building.

This is true-or in elevators, or anywhere else they can get a minute privacy to take care of business. But public loos can often be as bad if not worse than elevators that get turned into toilets, because there is no one to take care of them.

I've noticed coach travel is horrible now too.  The toilets are still free in the UK, but the people on coaches are rude, and often smelly.  It seems like because coaches are so cheap, they attract 'bad' people.  If you want a nice travelling experience in the UK you need to get the train instead.  Unfortunately, it can be as cheap as £6 each way to London on the coach, and it goes up to between £20 (if you're very lucky) and more likely £80 each way for the train.

Re: Let the good times Roll !!!!

Let's face it, nothing is the same as it used to be!  There were a lot less cars say 20 years ago and this made the bus a more beneficial way of travel.  But since 9/11, it seems that trust is the big missing factor amongst most people, so most people choose to drive rather than take the bus.  I am not sure if this is the right answer, but it seems that people just don't want to meet new people these days.
