    Cuba, anyone?

As an American citizen, I've never been allowed to go to Cuba and I have no idea what it's like. I think there are certain ways to get there but it's risky and difficult so no point, unless you're really desperate for some reason.

Difficult, yes, more so than other places.  I wouldnt say it was dangerous though.  I went to Cuba as a student a couple summers in a row.  My university had a campus with a volunteer school attached for the local schoolchildren.  I enjoyed my summers there and I never felt threatened.  The school handled all of the papers and legal stuff for the students that traveled.

I'm in Canada, and I know someone who's travelled to Cuba a few times. The last times she has stayed with friends she's met.

She obviously loves it, and I'm drawn to its history as a vacation destination and the culture, particularly the music.

I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be in a "socialist" country, though.

If you are just traveling and passing through you really don't even notice it Ricardo.  It is when you are there for an extended period of time or settle some.  Then you have to deal with things that will be very tedious to you.
