I heard that today an Air Canada plane made an emergency landing in Calgary after descending 4,000 feet in one minute, supposedly because of air turbulence.

I think some people were seriously hurt, but I don't think there are any life threatening injuries.

I heard about that.  I would be totally scared to descend that quick, had to be a nose dive type thing. 

I think it was pretty severe. Some passengers actually bounced off of the ceiling, according to reports made by other passengers.

I haven't heard what caused this for sure. I think there was speculation that there may have been mechanical failure.

I'm glad to hear everyone's alright. Even regular air turbulence during the flight is unsettling - I can't imagine how a situation that warrant an emergency landing would feel like.

I've flown a fair bit, but I've not experienced severe turbulence, and I hope I don't.

Are there flight paths where this is more likely than others?
