How much was your Hawaiian vacation? How long were you gone on your trip?

it's been a few years since i've been to hawaii, but its such an expensive tourist location that its one of the few times i would advocate using a travel service to buy a package in hopes of getting discounts.  that could also make the difference between being able to afford a discounted room at a nice hotel or staying further away from the beach, with less savory local characters around.  there is alot of border-line poverty in many places, which might not be the most pleasant reality if you get off the beaten track. 

We spent about $1700, and our room was already paid for by someone else.  (It was our honeymoon).  But we had an absolute blast and would go back in a second.  We also stayed right in Honolulu, which is the most touristy, highest priced section of the island as far as I know.
