    Shopping in Tokyo?

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo and I've been doing some research into good places to shop. I've found a lot of great online guides but I would love some real life testimonials. For anyone who has ever been to Tokyo (or even is planning and has a list of places to visit), do you know of any good shopping spots?

I play on buying a lot of clothing, anime/manga, and probably some neat gadjets since they have some many cool things that won't be introduced for ages here in the US.

I'm also planning a trip to Tokyo and am looking for many of the same thing! From my (brief) research, I can figure out that there's a number of different areas which tend to cater to different tastes. This link might be of help... http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html

    Hello, Tamera :)

I will also suggest a forum about Japan:  www.chibabeat.com

    Hope it helps.

I'm not 100% sure where to shop, but I will suggest that you bring quite a bit of money with you!

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

Japan is terribly expensive but I've found the most affordable things are Japanese clothing designers.  By comparison to U.S. prices, Yamamoto, etc. are much more affordable there and what great things you can bring home!

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

You can't really compare Japan to the rest of Asia in terms of economy and money.  I would personally consider Japan the most advanced country in the world today and one of the most expensive.  Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world for a reason (followed by London and Moscow).

I'm already a member of chibabeat, thanks Geline.

I am aware of Tokyo's expense, but it's understandable. I agree with faremax, I also consider them the most advanced. I can't wait to visit and witness it for myself after obsessing over the culture for so long.

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

I'd love to go to Japan. So it sounds like the shopping is kind of expensive?

I too, thought it was cheap as well. I'm glad I stopped by this thread! :)

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

The current exchange rate is 111 yen to 1 dollar. Shopping in Japan is pretty expensive, even the items on Ebay are above average, but this site offers some good places to shop at discount for gifts and such.

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

Japan has been expensive for years now to those of us on the dollar.  Food is what I find to be the most exhorbitant ....shopping bargains can be found but nothing imported, that's for sure.

If you get chance be sure to visit Kyoto as well - all the historical stuff is there, and it's really pretty!

Sorry I can't help with the advice on Tokyo shopping, I used to live in Kyoto, and so do not know Tokyo that well.

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

I think I would rather shop in Tokyo rather than shop in the states. They have the hottest designs and when it comes to fashion they have the latest styles. I love overseas fashion. I guess because I use to be a model, these things appeal to me but they have some of best stores in the country.

    Re: Shopping in Tokyo?

Yeah, tokyo is one of the most expensive city. I like japanese cloths and footwears. Its so expensive in my market. Since the japanese product are so expensive in my country that should be expensive there too.
