Ha! I've done that before, never fun!

I think the furthest I went was about 60 miles out of where I should have gone, from Colorado Springs to Pueblo.

I've missed subway stops, but never a train or long distance bus stop, for which I am deeply grateful. :)

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

I've never done it, but I'm always afraid I will.

So, for those of you who have missed stops, how do you get back to where you need to be?

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

By the time I'm finished changing flights and retrieving luggage, I am ready to sleep on the train.  I ususally set my pager or little alarm clock to go off a few minutes before arrival at my destination.  That way I have time to take my luggage off the rack, head for the door, etc.

I can't believe that.  I'm totally paranoid about sleeping on a train.  Too scared I'll oversleep.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

I've never gotten lost from oversleeping, but once the platforms changed for a train I was getting, and the signs were broken. I didn't hear the announcement, and got on the wrong train.

I'd paid for a 30 minute journey, and ended up on an express that didn't stop until it was several towns away!

The train company was really nice about it, and let me travel back on the next train for free - but they insisted I be escorted onto it, to make sure I wasn't just blagging a free trip.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

I think most people who do sleep on trains wake up at each stop anyways - the change in motion probably rouses you enough that you are still vaguely aware of where you are.

I sometimes doze a little bit, but only on long journies - I'd be worried like you on shorter ones.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

That is the scariest thing that you could possibly do to yourself lol.  I have done that before and that isn't fun not what so ever. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

The only time I made regular train journeys, it was a four hour run and my stop was the last one on the line. The only way I could have missed my stop was for the train to run into the sea! So I was confident napping.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

I've done that before. But not in train.

I've missed my station when I was travelling in bus some months ago.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

That is crazy. I would go out of my mind. And don't have someone who wouldn't help you find your way. Thats why when I sleep, I sleep very very light. Plus I never know what is going to happen in my surroundings.

    Re: Lost from Oversleeping?

I can't sleep in the train because passengers are coming in and out. It's very noisy and smells bad. I prefer to enjoy chatting with my seatmate or have fun watching nice sceneries. But I lost once not because of oversleeping but absent minded during the travel.
