If you gonna travel alone, I suggest you start by researching a travel tour company that can advise you the cheapest and the most convenience yet beautiful places to visit. If you are going to travel by yourself, without the help of travel agent or something like that, you can start almost anywhere in the Europe.

This site may be a good start for you: http://www.inyourpocket.com/

Let us know your experience during the travel.

If given the chance to go to Europe and decide where to go first, I would choose to see the famous Eiffel Tower and see how it is like in the reality :)  then move on to other scenic spots...

Well I think it all depends on what type of sites you want to see and how much time you have.

Are you more the Buckinham Palace type, or castle ruins in Wales type?

Do you want to see Austria? Germany?

Do you want to lay in the Tuscan sun in Italy and relax? Or go hiking in Switzerland?

When I went, I looked in guidebooks.  We bought rail passes unlimited mileage.  We landed in Athens, Greece and were flying out 18 days later from Paris, France.  That's all we knew for sure, and I loved it.  It was the best trip I ever took.  See the Vatican.  See Trevi Fountain and plan a couple days in Venice, Italy.  I personally loved Brussels, Belgium and Paris.  The Louvre will take a whole day if you are an art lover.

Baileym1, that's exactly the kind of trip I'd love to take!  I think it would be awesome!

To answer the original question, here's some advice that was given to me (if you're not the just-go-and-enjoy type): find some good guidebooks and pick out a few spots that you absolutely must-see.  The Eiffle Tower or the Louvre, for instance.  Then plan your trip loosely, leaving at least one day between any planned activities.  See the Eiffle Tower on Monday, for example, then the Louvre on Wednesday.  Leave plenty of time unscheduled between schedules so that if you just want to walk down the streets or spend the whole day staring at the Seine, you can.

I thought that was good advice, since it gives you a structure to go by, but leaves you to fill in the gaps with whatever spontaneous activities you might desire.

Re: I want to travel around Europe....

EXACTLY!!!  Like I said, we spent the whole day at the Louvre and sat out in the beautiful park that surrounds it.  Ate crepes from street vendors, walked up Champs Elysees and to the Eiffel Tower and Arc of Triump.

Took the subway to the colliseum in Rome and wandered the streets.  Ate gelato on the steps of the Trevi Fountain.

Sit on the steps in back of the train station in Venice and people watch.  It's awesome there.   Also make sure you hit St. Mark's Square at night.  All the colored lanterns lit up is so awesome.  Plant yourself at a cafe and sample some gelato with liquor.

If you want an awesome view at sunset, take the 17 hour ferry from Greece to Italy.  It was so magical being totally out of the sight of land.

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post again.  Good luck and have fun.  It was the most memorable trip of my life.

Re: I want to travel around Europe....

You might get a better response on the Europe board--this is the Africa board.

I don't see how we can give someone feedback who offer NO criteria. When will you travel? How long will you stay? What's your budget?

You start by answering those questions, then asking for advice.
