    Thailand

One of my best friends is half Thai, she was here in the US doing an internship last year and went back right before Winter. She is from Austrailia but travels to Thailand a lot. I'm planning on going with her next year, she wants to show me around the country.

Has anyone here ever been to Thailand, what experiences have you had? Would you recommend a trip there?

I'm slowly learning about Thai culture, I must admit what interests me most is the food. I've studied the food for the past two years and have learned to cook it quite well. It would an eye opener to experience it in the real country!

    Re: Thailand

Yes, I've been to Thailand, and I would say that it is definitely well worth a visit.

Bangkok is rather busy and crowded, but there are some quite good sights to see there, such as various temples, which are very impressive. Ko San Road is where all the bargains are to be had, including some ridiculous ones, like they'll print you an academic certificate, (one friend of mine got a Ph D in Pest Control for her cat).

Chang Mai up in the north is very good - again lots of really beautiful temples.

Some of the islands are supposed to be terrific.

The only downside is that there is, I gather, a significant "sex industry" , which is evident from much of the newspaper ads, and you do occasionally run into obnoxious types who are there just for that reason.

But, for the most part, I would say a good proportion of the tourists are cheerful, back-packing types.

I've been to Thailand a couple of times, and absolutely love it.  The people are not only beautiful but friendly and accomodating.

The food is excellent and some of my favorite so I've learned to make many Thai dishes.  But for me, one of the greatest things is the smell ...the smell of so many fresh flowers which is lovely.  I did a trip outside Bangkok to a floating market which was wonderful.

If you go, don't miss going up north the Chang Mai ...that's super.

    Re: Thailand

Hi Tamara.  My son is married to lovely lady from Thailand.  She was in Japan when he was stationed there while serving in the Navy.  He has been to Thailand many times and says it is beautiful.  He was actually married there according to the Thai tradition.  It was beautiful.

There are only two things he has ever said that he dislikes about Thailand and those are the rainy season and the humidity all of the time.  He and his wife live in San Diego now.

    Hey Tamera,

I am actually from Thailand. For sure, Thailand is pretty cool worth a visit, Bangkok the capital but most people love to go down relax along the beaches and islands in the South. The most beautiful islands in Thailand for me is Phuket, aka "The Pearl of the Andaman" totally a real visit.

Oh talking about the food, I love eating so bad, I like so many types of food, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese but in all, Thai food is the best :)

    Cheers, Fang
