What not to do when traveling to India

When you are in India, here are some of the things that you must not do there:

    • Never eat raw vegetables.
    • Never eat or drink unpasteurized dairy products
    • Never drink or brush you teeth with unboiled tap water
    • Never eat unpeeled fruit, and peel fruit before eating it.
    • Never eat undercooked fish or shellfish (including seviche) or meat.
    • Never drink beverages that contain ice made from unboiled tap water.

So, basically, just pick another vacation spot other than India!  :)

LOL, that's what it seems form the post above.  But seriously India is a fascinating country and is a MUST visit for any serious traveler.  I've never been to India yet but would love to go at some point

I would think a lot of those tips would apply to any foreign country, to be fair...

Thumper is absolutely correct.  Remove the title and this can easily apply to Mexico or any other less developed country.

Comon guys, lighten up ; ) that was FUNNY! And plus, India is more developed than you think it is. And their really big with cows, its one of their gods or something. Just dont eat meat, and it'll save you a lot of trouble.

I would love to go to India. I think it's one of the places I'd be most interested in visiting.

Everyone should try and go once.  I went for a month (was working there) and didn't drink the water, didn't eat uncooked veggies, etc. and ended up with parasites which required major medical treatment.

So, my memories of India are not fond!

Do you know how you ended up with parasites?

Nope, I don't.  They were on my skin and required individual injections into each bump in the skin which took the dermatologis upwards of an hour each time I went in for them.  They ran tests to try to determine where they came from and couldn't work it out.  We stayed in very good hotels so I still scratch my head over it ..pardon the pun!

I find this whole war with the parasites, viruses, etc. an interesting conflict. What makes it interesting is the side that claims that humans have so many problems due to their obsession with cleanlines, and in turn, loss of natural defenses for the little annoying creatures.

I too would love to visit India, but some of the warnings do rather put me off!

I know a number of people who have been, and, oddly enough, they have said that, although fascinating, it can be so stressing that you can develop anxiety/depression from being there.

I, for one, am not obsessed with being overly clean.  When you're walking down the sidewalk in India, and a person just drops their pants and takes a crap on the sidewalk in front of you, that's pretty unsanitary conditions in a hot climate.  That goes on a lot there. You can see the tell tale signs everywhere.   If it happens on the sidewalk, I hazard to think what goes on in some kitchens.

There is a problem is so much antibacterial soap, etc that people aren't buidling antibodies as well as they used to.  It's why I eat hot dogs from vendors in Manhattan.  It builds antibodies!

Goodness, Vicki! I didn't actually realise the people crapped in the street!!! Doesn't this just happen in some areas? No wonder people say it's a lot dirty.

Which bits of India have you visited?

And keep in mind that it only takes a tiny amount of food or water to make you sick. Aeomebic dysentery is a nasty experience.
