What are some fun but safe places to go in South America?  I know some friends who have gone and loved it, and would like to see some of the beautiful landscapes down there.  Perhaps Argentina?  I've heard it's nice.  Thanks for any suggestions.

What's "fun" for you [outdoor activities, resorts, big cities, etc.]? What's your time frame and budget? Are you traveling alone with or with others.

South and Central America is a huge and diverse place with hundreds of destinations.

Look at Brazil. You should find something there of interest.

I've heard nice things about parts of South America, Beunos Aires and such. I haven't been, but it's been featured on travel shows I've seen and it looks nice. Most of the reasons it seems people go to South America is to the Amazon.
