We're planning a trip to California this year.

Which places are you suggesting that we visit and what is the best time in a year to go there?

Are you planning on going to the northern part of the state or the southern part?

The best time of year to go to California depends on what you want to do when you get here.  Beaches-summer. Skiing-winter.  Disneyland is typically less crowded during the winter except over Christmas vacation if you are planning going there. 

When do you plan on going there? Which seasons? And do you have a budget you want to stick to?

I agree.  I think San Francisco is a must-do.  See Alcatraz Island while you're there.  I've heard Topanga Canyon is an awesome place to see concerts.  The drive along Ocean Pacific Highway is amazing.

I've always wanted to go to California and visit all the places I read about in Francesca Lia Block novels, like Laurel Canyon. But given how smoggy it is supposed to be in Cali, would it be hard for asthmatics there?

Southern Calif is very hot, smoggy and crowded in the summer. SF is cool and foggy in the summer. San Diego is nice almost all of the time.

Calif is a huge place.
