My wife and I were put up for a few days at the Barcelo Maya near the Mayan Riviera, when our hotel overbooked. We liked it so much we returned the next year for a full week. It's the best property I've ever stayed at. The lunch meals included were better than many dinner meals at other resorts.
Earlier this year there was a double homicide there, which the Mexican authorities pathetically tried to blame on other tourists.
