Does this still exist? Does it only go to Florida (as I've heard) or does it go all over the U.S.?

Like, if I was re-locating, could we ship our car by train if we were booked to ride on that train?

wouldn't you just love to beeeeeeeeeee me? "-)

I've only heard of the one that goes down the east coast to Florida, too.  It would be interesting to find out for sure.  I hope someone knows.  We never did it when traveling to Florida because it's too much fun to look around and see what's out there. Wilted Flower

Wow!!!  Thanks for sharing about auto trains.  Yes, they do exist and I am already thinking about using it (if the price is right). You can get more information from Amtrak here

No, it doesn't travel on the road.... it transports your vehicle (and you!) by rail so that you don't

have to do the driving.  I only know of one along the east coast... don't know if the service is

available for other places or not.

    Re: the auto train

My parents took auto-train last year to Florida.  It used to run from New York down to Florida, but now it begins in Virginia.

The last time they took it, the train was cancelled for that day, and they were told to return the following day.  They'd already driven 8 hours to get to Virginia, so they just kept driving to Florida.  But the time before that everything ran smoothly, and they said it was a great way to go down there.

They're snowbirds now, so they go every year.

I never heard about auto train in my country. Infact, I don't know yet what it looks like. Would you mind to post some picture of it?

    Re: the auto train

Not quite sure how this will work, but Im going to attempt to insert a link to the auto train page of the Amtrak website:

    http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Route/Vertical_Route_Page&cid=1081256321200&c=am2Route&ssid=134

If it doesn't work, just go to www.amtrak.com and use the search box to find auto train... you'll find it.

    Thanks for the smile.  Smile

Concerning the topic, yes, the train starts in Virginia now.  We have to drive for hours to reach it, too, so getting there and finding out we couldn't use it would be a nasty surprise.

We only have traditional trains here. I never saw the autotrain?
Is that like a train that do not need driver? Or something else?

Kisna, it's a train that includes freight cars used to store the automobiles of the passengers.  So instead of driving to your destination, you load your automobile on the train, then take your seat on the train.  When you arrive, you have your own car to use at your destination.  It is used by people in the NorthEast part of the U.S. to travel down to Florida, where it is warmer in the winter.  Many people stay for several months, so they prefer to have their own car with them, and this is a way to do it without having to drive for 2 or 3 days.

    Re: the auto train

I have actually moved by train before to another city and I was capable of transfering most of my thing by train. You items ride on another train though. It's like shipping your things if you were moving across the country or overseas.
