It's one of the best places to visit in Sydney, for young and old. The diurnally reversed platypus habitat is amazing.
There
are over 3000 endangered and rare critters here, including a
substantial number of Australian ones. The critters are thoroughly well
looked after too, and they have million-dollar views, making them some
of the luckiest residents in Sydney.
A zoo fave of ours is the platypus habitat, in which day and night
have been switched around so that the nocturnal platypuses are active
during opening hours. There are also plenty of photo opporunities in
the koala display and for those who love seeing performing seals, keep
lunchtime free. Taronga Zoo has an important endangered species
breeding program, including Sumatran tigers, red pandas, orang-utans
and snow leopards. There's a wonderful sleep-over program called Roar
& Snore, but this gets booked out quickly - still, it's worth
trying to get a ticket.
