    New Orleans?

I've never been to New Orleans, but I think it has very interesting culture and I hope that the area rebuilds and remains a destination for vacations.

Has anyone here been there since Katrina?

Oh, I strongly agree with this and I'd love to go there!  There's just something really neat feeling about that culture and I've always felt that.  Between the ambiance and the music and the food, I'm sure it would make an amazing vacation.

It's going to rebuild, in due time its apart of our country. But you don't have to wait for it to rebuild before you go down there. I went during the time of tragedy and it was an experience that I think we as a human race should be involved in.

    Re: New Orleans?

I wanted to visit New Orleans so bad because of its famous French quarters, and especially during Mardi Gras it would've been amazing. Now that the city's undergoing reconstruction, I'm not sure what to make of it... of course it will be restored and has already made progress but I'll always feel like the New Orleans I loved has been destroyed :(

Most of the downtown Frech Quarter district where the Mardi Gras festivities take place are back to normal for the most part.  It is the surrounding communities and places up and down the coast that are still rebuilding.

    Re: New Orleans?

Do you think things were learned from Katrina about how to handle a similar disaster?

Judging from what I heard on TV there was a lot of criticism of some of the people in charge of the disaster relief.

    Re: New Orleans?

I just saw in the news today that the resorts and gambling industry was getting this enormous chunk of change to help them rebuild.  Why are people still living in trailers but these casinos are getting showered with money?
