    France opens fastest railway link

I found this pretty interesting: "Air France officials have expressed fears that the new line could have a considerable impact on the one million passengers the airline currently flies to cities in eastern France every year. It has pledged to reduce fares to counter the competition. " http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6450973.stm ------ I wonder if more trains such as this will drive airline prices down even lower? I personally would enjoy being on a train much more than a plane. Does anyone know if this is the fastest train in Europe right now?

No Idea, but I would guess that it doesn't come close to the Japanese ones. I'd love for there to be more trains here in America; I find it a very pleasant way to travel. You have far better scenery than when flying, and can generally walk about more. Driving prices down won't be a bad thing either, unless it drives too many budget priced airlines out of business, in which case we would all suffer.

If they all go out of business, we can all boat to continents! I wonder if my vacation time would reflect the time needed to get around... that may be nice. On a serious note, if more trains pop-up like the one here in France and drive those airline prices down you may be correct, they may take a lot of airlines out of business. I think they're still being hit pretty hard from 9/11, I doubt they can take anymore strain.
