    When Your Route Gets Cancelled

There is a relatively comprehensive bus route in the UK. But from time to time they play around with making the system more 'efficient' and in doing so have cut people off from their commuter method to work in other towns and cities, and isolated small pockets of the community. Has this ever happened where you are?

I was reading just recently of a town in Wales that has been cut off after just two years of service. The company says there were not making enough money because the people using the bus were mostly old and had free bus passes, but as a consequence, those elderly people are having a hard time even going shopping.

We do not have such problem because of the companies generally. But we do have probelm because of the weather and the political condition. We have mountains in the way from my village to the town. And the bus get cancelled because of the landslides in the way often.

That would be an understandable reason for cancellation, and also just a temporary one. The cancellations that I was referring to are actually permanent ones. So the people were permanently isolated within their little towns and villages.

Is that even possible? I don't think they can permanetly cancel a trip can they?

They who? The companies can do what they like when it's a private company; there's no one to force their hand.

oh you are talking abouta private company. I haven't heard of greyhound ever doing something like that. Plus you lose money doing silly stuff like permanetly cancelling a trip.

These cases were in the UK-not a Greyhound route. They were companies like Arriva, who can do whatever they please because the government deregulated them.

ohhhhh, thats not cool. That make things alot more inconvienant for the passengers. I'm glad that the greyhound doesn't do that. As far as I know anyway.

I thought Nexus substituted routes in the UK that were needed for small communities, but not profitable? Or does Nexus not cover Wales? I live in Northern England, and while there is always bus coverage (thanks to Nexus) it's often infrequent and inconvenient.

I left Wales, three years ago, Nexus did not cover there. Maybe they do now, but I think it more likely that the areas are just not serviced at all, knowing how things are there generally.
