    They didn't pay...

I heard about someone at a resort hotel who fell off his balcony.

His insurance company said because he was drinking, they wouldn't be paying his claim.

Aside from this case, I wonder how tough it would be to get money from a travel insurance policy.

Yes, this is very well possible.  I think they mention it in the terms and conditions you have to agree to when buying a policy.  Just another negative side of getting uncontrollably drunk.  Depending on a case and travel insurance provider it can get a few months (or even longer) until you get paid.

This becomes a case of self inflicted injuries, and just like with sucide, it's your only fault. Most travel insurances only cover accidental injury-it would be a rare day that a company paid you for hurting yourself.

Its just like workers comp on the job. If you were to hurt yourself they would pay your bills and probably pay you outside of that. But if you got hurt because you were drinking on the job then they aren't going to pay you anything. It was your fault that you got hurt.

    Re: They didn't pay...

There's always terms and conditions in all travel insurance company worldwide. So I guess the insurance company have the right not to pay anything especially if the man who falls down from a balcony was proven drunk. We are all responsible of our own carelessness.
