    Laptop In Carry-On?

I've never travelled with my laptop computer, but I assume there would be no problem packing it in your carry-on baggage?

I expect you may have to turn it on for inspection before boarding?

There should be no problem with this as there are always people with laptops on the plane, but I'm not sure about the inspection process. I'd like to know this as well, as I'm traveling this summer and I'll have to take my laptop with me.

I've heard of people travelling with musical electronics having to explain what they were for when they were being inspected. In one case the officials wanted to know what a rack mount sound module was for. It just looked like a metal box.

This can be challenging if there's a language barrier.

I can just about  imagine trying to explain a plain looking metal box with a language barrier. I would think though that a laptop computer should be pretty easy to explain.
